Digital grant of $10,000 available for small Queensland businesses

Digital grant for Qld small businesses

If you’re a small business in Queensland, you could be eligible to apply for the Queensland Government digital grant. The grant matches your own investment in digital technology, up to a total value of $10,000.

Who is eligible?

Any Queensland business that meets these criteria can apply:

  • Less than 20 full-time employees
  • An ABN
  • GST registration
  • Headquarters in Queensland.

What is the small business grant for?

In the broadest terms, the grant is for any kind of digital hardware, software or services that:

  • Enhance the digital capabilities of your business
  • Help you become more competitive locally and globally
  • May help you employ more staff.

After reading through the documentation, it appears that the main purpose of these grants (from the government’s perspective) is to strengthen the Queensland economy by helping businesses compete in the global market and contribute to jobs growth, by utilising digital technology.

There’s a strong focus on helping Queensland businesses to work smarter, engage with the global economy, take advantage of online opportunities and become globally competitive.

What does the small business grant cover?

The documentation lists five individual areas the digital grant can be used for:

  • Digital marketing and social media
  • Digital content (e.g. web pages, mobile apps, media)
  • Receiving payments or selling online
  • Specialised technology or services
  • Planning and advice or training.

What do I need to do to apply?

Applications are open from 8 November 2016 and close on 9 December 2016. The good news is that if you don’t have time to apply by 9 December this year, there will be additional rounds available in March and June 2017.

Your application needs to include:

  • A detailed quote for the products or services you plan to acquire
  • An outline of how this will enhance your digital capabilities and make you more competitive
  • An overview of the impact/s on your business, such as revenue growth, cost savings, time savings, employment outcomes
  • Your employee headcount
  • A breakdown of your matched contribution and how it will be used.

You can learn more about the digital grant basics on the Queensland Business and Industry Portal and read the full application guidelines here.
